In his fulltime WCCM ministry, Fr Laurence travels widely as a spiritual guide, international speaker and retreat leader. He is the author of many books and articles [see wccm.org]. Fr Laurence has conducted dialogues and peace initiatives, such as the historic “Way of Peace” with the Dalai Lama, and he is active in inter-religious dialogue with leaders of other faiths. He encourages the teaching of Christian meditation to children and students and promotes the recovery of contemplative wisdom in the church and in society.

This pioneering spirit is evident in his presentation of the desert wisdom of the 4th and 5th centuries through his translation of desert stories in The Wis-dom of the Desert. This evening will be an exploration of Merton's encounter with the desert tradition as it lead him towards the dis-covery of his "own true self in Christ." As we examine Merton's use of these texts we will find wisdom for our own journey in the land-scape of the human heart.
