An Introductory Wisdom School
with Cynthia Bourgeault

"Wisdom is not about knowing more but knowing with more of you"

Wisdom describes a foundational lineage of spiritual knowledge that underlies all of the world’s specific faith traditions and that outlines a detailed science of spiritual transformation. Participants are introduced to the Wisdom way of knowing, including three-centered knowing, Benedictine balanced living, and heart-centered living. The specific practices of chanting and attention are presented. The Gospel of Thomas and the process of lectio divina are also introduced. The balance and the rhythm of our time together (which, beyond the teaching, includes contemplative worship, work in the kitchen/outside and silence) become both the place to which we will arrive and the means by which we will get there.

So a Wisdom School is about deepening the process of formation through a practical exploration of how Wisdom is ‘caught, not taught’ through the increasing ability of each practitioner to wield the energy of attention and intention through conscious presence. We will learn how to bring ourselves into presence, to find the internal balance point between will and surrender, and to ‘hold the teacher’s post’ flexibly, from a prepared heart rather than a prepared curriculum.

Cynthia has requested that an established meditation or prayer of silence practice be a prerequisite for this Wisdom School.
